Hau and Kerry Get Married (again) at Carey Gardens

Another wonderful wedding that I had the good fortune to photograph!  Kerry contacted me way back last February; he and Hau were planning a big wedding in September and needed a photographer.  This was technically not their “real” wedding, because they had already had a semi-secret courthouse wedding. But after thinking about it, and getting encouragement from friends who knew about the court wedding, the newlyweds decided that they needed to have a larger wedding that their famly and friends could attend.  And I was lucky enough to be their choice to be their photographer!

In early July we met for a pre-wedding photo session at JB Family Growers. This session was a great chance for us to meet in person in advance of the wedding, both to get to know each other a bit and also for Kerry and Hau to get a feel for what it’s like to be the subjects of a photo shoot. The shoot went great, and I left really looking forward to the wedding.

Kerry proved to be a serious “organizer”, and as the date got closer we talked/emailed several times and he filled me in on the plans for the Big Day. I really appreciate couples that are able to visualize in advance how they want how they want the various parts of the wedding/reception to come together; those people are much more rare than you might imagine.  So I hade a very good feel for how the timeline of the wedding had been set up, and what I needed to do to prepare.

The weather the day of the wedding was a bit indeterminate, with mostly cloudy skies and even a few showers. But as the morning went on things dried out nicely, and by the time I arrived at The Carey Gardens the clouds were starting to break up, and it looked like we were going to have a sunny wedding.

The pre-ceremony photo session went very well, with all participants on-time and ready to go when needed; again, not something that I see at every (or even most) weddings. The venue had some nice locations for photos, and I tried to take advantage of as many good spots as I could find.

And now it was time for the Main Event!  The guests all took their seats on the lawn where the ceremony was to take place, and the wedding party lined up in preparation for their march down the aisle to begin the ceremony.  First the wedding party made their way down the aisle. The came Kerry with his mother, and finally Hau with his mother.  The officiant was a cousin of Hau’s, and did an excellent job.

At the conclusion of the ceremony the guests all moved into the tent where drinks and appetizers were available, while I took Hau and Kerry and a number of the wedding party and family back to a location where we could get some group photos that we missed earlier.  Then everyone moved back to the tent, where the boys were able to greet and talk with their guests and friends.  Dinner was then served, and I got out of the way to let everyone have a chance to get something to eat.

Next up was the First Dance for Hau and Kerry. We moved down near the pond, where the deck acted as a great dance floor. After the boys finished their dance, each of them danced with their mothers.  And then the guests who wanted to dance joined the boys on the dance floor.  Then it was back to the tent for the cutting of the Wedding Cheesecakes!

After everyone had a chance at the pies, we had another round of photos with various friends and family, and then the “real” dance floor finally opened.  For the next hour plus everyone who wanted to dance (and there were a lot who did) showed off their dance moves.

That was it for the evening.  A fantastic wedding and a fantastic day!
