2019 Down Syndrome Community Sweetheart Dance

Down Syndrome Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Dance

Last weekend I was the photographer for the 2019 Valentine’s Sweetheart Dance put on by the Down Syndrome Community.  The dance had originally been scheduled to be held two weeks earlier, but the rather crazy amount of snow on the ground at the time necessitated rescheduling the date.  I have been the photographer at this dance for 20+ years now, and it is always a highlight of the year for the Seattle area Down Syndrome community.

The new date proved to be a good choice, with possibly the highest attendance ever for this event.  The MI Community Center is a great place for this kind of event, and everything seemed to come together so all involved could have a wonderful time.  As always there was plenty of food for everyone; pizza, salad, drinks and more!  Plus an incredible selection of desserts provided by the participants at the dance.

I was able to set up a photo station off in a corner of the room where people could drop by for photos, either as individuals or groups.  And whenever my business there was slow I’d walk around the room taking some candid photos of the action.  There were plenty of people on the dance floor all evening, and I was impressed with the skills showed by some of the dancers!

Here are a few photos from the event, I hope that you enjoy them.
