Family Photos – Brenda and baby Gemma at the Botanical Garden

A couple of weeks ago I met up with Brenda and her daughter Gemma at the Bellevue Botanical Garden for a family/baby photo session.  Regrettably dad Zack was not able to make it, but since Gemma was the star of the show anyway it wasn’t really a problem.

I was the photographer at Brenda and Zack’s wedding at Tibbett’s Creek Manor just over two years ago.  When Gemma was born ~9 months ago I messaged Brenda to tell her that I was available anytime for a photo session; it took awhile, but we finally were able to set up the time for this session.

We lucked out and had a very nice day with warm conditions and a bit of sunshine, but not so much that it was a squinty situation.  Brenda had brought several outfits for Gemma, so she got Gemma dressed and we startd taking photos.

Gemma was initially quite wary of me.  She was fully aware that I was not someone who she knew, and refused to give me a smile.  But as I talked with her and Brenda, all the while taking photos, Gemma started to warm up a bit.  She liked seeing the images of herself and her mother on the back of my camera.  Clearly a child who is quite familiar with having her picture taken!

After about a half hour Gemma either decided that I was OK, or that I just no longer qualified as a stranger and I finally got to see her smile!

It was a really fun session.  I have a lot of fun photographing babies, and always love doing family photo sessions with couples whose weddings I photographed.  It is always interesting to see how their lives have changed since their wedding day, especially when a baby is involved.

Following is a sampling of photos from the session.  I hope that you like them!
