Seattle Engagement Photo Session at Gas Works Park

Engagement Photos with Yoshimi and Jake at Gas Works Park

I am more than a little embarrassed that it has taken me so long to get this photo session online.  I have been so busy with other weddings and photo sessions that my blog has fallen way behind!  Especially embarrassing in this case since I just photographed Yoshimi and Jake’s wedding last weekend, and did not yet have their full engagement photo session posted.  My priority is to first get all of my photos edited and to the couples involved, blogging has to take second place.

I actually first met Yoshimi and Jake two years ago at Yoshimi’s sister Manami’s wedding (which you can see by clicking on this link).  Yoshimi was one of her sister’s Maids of Honor, and Jake was one of groom Sam’s Best Men.  When they contacted me last summer to tell me that they were getting married and wanted me to be their photographer I was delighted!   We discussed engagement photos, and they thought that they wanted to wait until Spring to have the session.  We set a tentative date and planned to talk further as Spring got closer.

With the crazy winter and early Spring that we had it took a couple of tries before we came up with a good date.  Jake and Manami had decided to do their session at Gas Works Park, of which I highly approved as it is one of my favorite engagement session locations in Seattle.  the day of the session we met at the park.  The weather was what I’d describe as semi-sunny, quite bright but with lots of thin cloud cover and not a lot of blue sky.

We started our session at one of my favorite place at Gas Works, the old concrete arches that once supported an unloading area for trains bringing supplies to the old Gas Works.  It was a bit challenging as we had a few photo-bombers to deal with, but once they went away we were able to have fun with the arches.  We then made our way slowly around the park just looking for nice spots for photos, of which there are many.

When we finally finished our walk around the park, I asked Yoshimi and Jake if they would like to make a quick trip to the University of Washington.  At this time the cherry trees on campus were in full bloom and I thought it would be fun to get some photos there as well.  Jake and Yoshimi were enthusiastic in their agreement and we climbed into our cars and headed for the UW.

Even though it was a Tuesday afternoon the parking garage at the UW was full of the cars of other people who had come to get photos of the cherry blossoms.  It took a little time but we were able to find other parking near the campus.  Once there we headed straight for the cherry trees.  As I suspected, there were literally hundreds of others who were visiting the campus just for photos, and combined with the normal student population it was a bit daunting.  But I have done other photo sessions at the UW during cherry blossom season and knew some areas that let us dodge at least most of the people who were also doing their best to get some unobstructed photos of the trees.

Now I invite you to scroll through the photos below.  I took a lot more photos, but this should give you a decent taste of our session.  I hope that you enjoy the photos!
