Sunny Seattle Senior Photo Session at Kubota Garden

Senior Photos with Emma and Sean at Seattle’s Kubota Garden

This session with senior twins Emma and Sean took place back in the fall, at the end of October.  I had been working with mom Rebecca since the beginning of the month trying to find a date to take the photos that would not only work for all involved, but also have decent weather conditions.  Both Sean and Emma have fairly busy schedules even though they are not able to physically attend classes (their school is currently online only), and weekdays were very difficult.  My own schedule was quite busy on weekends, when I had a lot of other senior photo appointments already set.  And then there was that whole weather thing; finding a nice day in Seattle in October is a bit of a crap shoot, and a senior photo session in the rain is generally not a lot of fun for anyone involved. So we kept trying to schedule a date and just had a terrible time finding something that would work.  Rather frustrating all around!

But as the end of October approached, I had an entire Saturday open and both twins were also free.  We set the date and rather anxiously watched the weather to see if we’d get rained out.  We decided to have the session at the Kubota Garden, which we hoped would have some nice fall colors, and is always a great place for photos.

As it turned out, it was a gorgeous day.  Perhaps too gorgeous!  Everyone in Seattle had been held indoors recently due to poor weather, and when a sunny fall Saturday miraculously appeared pretty much the entire city not only wanted to get out and enjoy the nice weather, it seemed that they also thought that Kubota was where they wanted to be.  I discovered this when I arrived at the park ~15 minutes early, and discovered that not only was the parking lot full, but all the street parking in the nearby area was also packed.  I managed to wedge my small car into a space that probably was not a legit parking spot, and I quickly texted Rebecca to warn her abut the parking situation.

It took them awhile, but eventually they found a parking spot several hundred yards away from the park.  We met up at the park entrance and were immediately aware that there were a LOT of people at the park.  Which meant that our photo session was going to be a bit more interesting than we had hoped. 🙂

We made our way into the park and headed for some spots that I knew would be good for photos, if they were not too crowded.  Most of the time it was no problem; when people saw that we were doing a photo session they would give us space and let us take our photos, and then we’d get out of their way as quickly as possible.  But some people apparently either did not care or were just completely oblivious, so we’d either wait until we were able to make use of the area or just move on to someplace else.

Fortunately I have done so many different photo sessions at Kubota that I knew exactly where I wanted to go to get the best backgrounds and also to try to get the best lighting.  The sun was rather low in the sky, making lens flare a serious problem at times.  But we had a lot of fun as we moved through the park, taking the time to get to know each other.  I happen to have two pairs of nieces/nephews who are also fraternal twins (yes, in the same family!) and we talked a bit about twins and separation, and how they thought their lives would be affected next year when they went to different colleges.

We spent a bit over two hours and managed to get a lot of fun photos, both of each twin alone as well as some of them together.  I’m only going to show a few photos from the session here, but I hope that you enjoy them.
