Wonderful Seattle Area Same Sex Elopement Wedding

Kecia and Alice get married at Three Tree Point B&B

A few weeks ago I got a phone call from a woman named Kecia.  She lived in Virginia, and was planning to come to Seattle soon to get married and wanted to know if I would be available to photograph the ceremony.  It was going to be a very small, intimate elopement, and I would probably need to be one of the witnesses.  I told her it sounded like fun, and asked how I could help.

The initial plan was to have the ceremony on the observation deck of the Space Needle, in the late morning on a Thursday.  This would hopefully mean fewer people would be on the observation deck at the same time, which would make the logistics of having a wedding ceremony considerably easier.  I asked who the officiant was going to be, and was delighted when they told me it was Annemarie Juhlian, who I have worked with at numerous weddings over the years and who is IMO the best wedding officiant in Seattle.  Kecia and I discussed a bit more about exactly how to make the the ceremony go smoothly, as well as what other photos that she would like me to take while I was there, and we agreed to keep in touch as she and her spouse-to-be Alice made some final decisions about the actual ceremony.

When I am going to be shooting a wedding I become a pretty hard-core weather watcher, since I can do entirely different photos when it is nice versus when it is rainy.  As the date got closer, I began to see that it was very likely that we were going to have a possibly wet and windy day on the wedding date.  This did not make me happy, since I had hoped that after the ceremony I would be able to take the newlyweds on a walk around Seattle Center and get some nice photos there.  I was pretty sure that they would not be very excited about a photo session in the rain, which meant that our options for photos would be very limited.

Then things took an unexpected turn.  A couple of days before the wedding date I got aa email from Kecia.  She and Alice had decided that they were not going to be married at the Space Needle after all, but were instead going to have the ceremony at the B&B where she and Alice were going to be staying, the Three Tree Point B&B in Burien.  Apparently there were potential issues with having the ceremony at the Space Needle that they had not been aware of, so they decided they needed to make the change.  This was completely fine with me; I had never been to this B&B but I do know that area quite well, and knew that if the weather cooperated we should be able to get some nice photos.

The day of the wedding it was quite cloudy and dark, but no rain as I drove to the B&B.  Three Tree Point B&B is located on (surprise!) Three Tree Point, and on a clear day has a great west view across Puget Sound and also of Mt Rainier to the south.  Alice and Kecia had spent the night there, and since the weather the day before had been quite sunny and clear they had had a good view of the mountain.  Not the case today though!  Far too cloudy to see more than a few miles in any direction.  But at least it was still dry.

Annemarie was already there when I arrived, and after discussing the best way to orient everyone for the ceremony we got things underway.  Penny, who owns the B&B, was there as the second witness.  As always Annemarie did a wonderful job of conducting the ceremony, and I tried to move about the room getting photos without being an annoyance.  At least I did not have to worry about getting in the way of the guests!  At the conclusion of the ceremony Kecia and Alice signed all of the necessary paperwork, and Penny and I added our signatures as witnesses, and Alce and Kecia were legally married.

Now it was time to try to get some photos of the newlyweds outside of the B&B.  The rain was still holding off, and there were some nice fall colors on some of the trees nearby so we decided to take advantage of what was near at hand rather than drive to the beach.  And (of course) no sooner did we walk down the driveway than it began to rain!  Not hard, but a more than just a mist.  Fortunately the ladies had insisted on bringing an umbrella as we started our walk, and I had grabbed one as well, so we decided to keep taking photos as long as the rain did not get too nasty.  As it turned out we were able to get a nice selection of photos, which you will now see below.  I hope you like the pictures!
